The nonprofit landscape has changed dramatically over the last decade. Today, donors no longer support a nonprofit just because they seem worthy. Donors have higher expectations for the impact of their gift and can access resources to measure whether or not a nonprofit is considered effective. As a result, nonprofits use low overhead to appear more attractive to donors. This often results in a vicious starvation cycle for nonprofits who struggle to balance resources between running their organizations and meeting the performance demands of donors. Drawing on twenty-five years of fundraising experience, Barbara O'Reilly will share strategies for how to change the conversation with your donors to focus on the true cost of impact.

Barbara O’Reilly, CFRE, is Principal and Founder of Windmill Hill Consulting. As an independent consultant she brings to her clients twenty-five years of major gift and campaign fundraising experience at major non-profit organizations including Columbia University, Harvard University, MIT, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Oxford University in England, and the American Red Cross. She helps organizations to build nonprofit excellence through strategic planning and coordination of annual funds, capital campaigns, individual and institutional major gifts, and donor engagement as well as and Board and staff training and coaching. She serves on the board of AFP’s Metro Washington DC Chapter and as a member of Advisory Panel for Rogare, the University of Plymouth Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy’s fundraising think tank in England. Barbara is a frequent presenter and writer on fundraising and board development.
